Talk It O U T

One topic that I think is so important for college students to hear about is the importance of talking their stress out. We are currently at the stage in our lives where we are constantly on the go; whether it's work, school, extracurriculars, whatever it may be, we don't stop until we get to the point of being so tired that we have to finally just have to give in and go to bed. This constant movement and mentality really allows stress to build up and accumulate, and if we don't get it out, it only gets worse. One of the easiest ways to relate this stress is simply by talking. I know it sounds easy, but many college students see themselves as independent people who are fully capable of handling stress on their own terms. But, simply by overlooking the stigma that talking about our feelings makes us look "weak," we could really help rid ourselves of some of the stress that we internalize.
I'll admit, I was once very against talking about my feelings to some complete stranger, but decided that my friends were no longer helping and I needed an outside source, someone away from my family or friends. I started seeing a physiologist at the end of July, and since then I have noticed SUCH a change within myself that it's not even funny. In a previous post, I shared my thoughts and experiences with keeping a journal, and I have found that this really helps. I attend a therapy session once every three weeks, and in between sessions I will write done important thoughts, memories, ideas, or situations I have found myself in to share at my next session.
Now, while some people might still be apprehensive about attending therapy, they should not be apprehensive towards talking to someone. Before starting therapy, I was a person would internalized my stress, which would lead to a slew of anxiety and panic attacks. This only ended up causing me more stress in the end, and that is something I have been so happy to get rid of. Being able to verbalize what I am going through and how it makes me feel has really helped to find the "better" me (cheesy, I know). I know find myself smiling more, even in the face of new obstacles, and I could not be happier!

all my best wishes and vibes,
Zoe
