Systematic Study Space

As college students, it's important to have a specific place to do homework where you live (dorm, apartment, house, etc.). Having this space allows you to do your work without having to leave your warm room and travel to loud spaces, like the library. After some calculations, I realized that over my fours years at school I have only sat in the library to do homework six times. I am not someone who likes the overstimulation that the library provides with it's bright lights, loud noises, and uncomfortable chairs. So, I decided to make my desk area my "study oasis."

After a total room rearrangement at the beginning of the semester, my desk now sits against a wall, facing away from my bed. I personally find that this helps because then I cannot see my bed at all, and won't feel the temptation of laying down and doing nothing when I need to be getting work done. My desk was provided by the company I lease my apartment through, and is actually a really nice space, providing lots of room to spread out and do my work.
I am someone who likes to be comfy and cozy when doing my work, so I added some of those touches to my space. A couple of years ago I found a really cheap cake stand and decided to make and rename it a "candle stand." Currently I have a really soft, fruity Bath & Body Works candle burning and that definitely has to be the biggest reason the space feel cozy. I then added a quilt throw over top of a simple white chair from Ikea for two reasons: 1. keep my butt warm because the plastic does get a little chilly, and 2. make it more comfortable. This chair is not necessarily the most comfortable on it's own, but it was a great price, especially for a broke college student. I like to have writing utensils at close reach because I am a complete list person, so in two plant holders I keep one with all markers and the other is a combination of my pens and pencils. To spruce up the space and avoid looking at a bare, white wall when doing homework, I added some decoration. In the picture you can see my two golden tassels, my calendar, and some pictures, but I have more up top. The biggest and most important focal point is my calendar, which keeps me on track each month.

At the beginning of the year I bought this calendar from Target and have used it consistently as the year went on. I have it place above my desk because it is the easiest place for me to view it. In the past couple of years I had used a bigger calendar that laid flat on my desk, but decided to switch it up this year because I found that it was taking up entirely too much space. I like the fact that this can hang on the wall because it is out of the way but still easy to see. Like I do in my planner, I write down my upcoming school and sorority activities in their designated colors. I filled this out briefly at the start of the semester when I got all of my syllabi and continued to fill it in each month as more information came my way.
all my best wishes and vibes,
Zoe
